Any suggestions?

So here are my Sex and the City boys for the Screen secondary story for next week. I have colored them in Photoshop after live tracing them in Illustrator. Any color suggestions or comments? I would love feedback on them!!! Thanks!

You Can't Miss

Noisy decent graphics have some interesting little tidbits up on the blog this week. One interesting post was about a show the designer went to where the artist builds sculptures/structures of transportation modules (cars, bikes, etc.). I was very impressed with the Volkswagen Golf model, which was parked outside of the exhibit. People could actually sit inside the car and it even had its own parking ticket! Talk about ingenuity.
By looking at different types of art, I feel it helps me think of ways to manipulate it onto a page for print design. Just think, a car structure like this could be drawn onto a page for someone's department or feature this semester, or for a logo for a car company. Other artists' work really affects me to think of how I can come up with a similar idea, yet stretch it into my own style.

Response

I really liked what everyone had to say about my work from the portfolio critique today. I should have mentioned in class however, that I am considering other outlets than just magazine after college (advertising, freelance graphic design, etc.). After tallying the comments, surprisingly everyone seemed to really like my wax batiks that I did a few years ago in a fibers class. This made me so happy because they are two pieces that have been on my walls since I got them back from the teacher.
I feel bad I didn't have all of my fibers work to show you all, but my teacher still has a lot of it she's showing as examples for this semester.
If any of you would like to know the long and intense process of making handmade paper from a fiber, let me know!!!

I was really excited to see everyone's work from other jobs/classes. This was a chance to finally see the experience and creativity that each of you possess and I must say you are all very different! I hope we get a chance to do this again later down the road so we can see how everyone progresses as the schoolyear ends.

Critique

This week I am critiquing my FINAL draft of the Interracial Feature, which comes out this Thursday for all of you folks interested. I had a very long and interesting process with this, especially since the weather cancelled class on Tuesday and I had delays in getting the photo. My overall opinion is that I like my concept and the end result, I just don't want to have to do this ever again. The hardest part for me was coming up with a concept for a topic which I felt was overdone and then adding the element of sports to it (which is another one of my weaknesses). It just so happened that everyone like my little coach's strategy play aroudn the headline and that is what stuck for me. I decided the X's and O's to be pink and blue because one: chalk can be pastel pink and blue, and two: boy & girl colors because it is about dating.
There isn't much excitement to the piece, however I do feel I accomplished an okay design for what little direction I was given with the text and the photo. I just hope everyone else likes it!!!
