You Can't Miss: blog

This week on Noisy Decent Graphics the topic of biodegradable product packaging came up due to the most recent wrapper that can supposedly decompose like produce in a compost heap. The author of NDG has decided to experiment with a wrapper to see if it really works in his compost heap.
What intrigued me what that I can't really think of a product in the U.S. that has biodegradable packaging. Can you?
He also mentions plastic bags that break down. Wow, Wal-mart needs to listen to this. We waste so much with our plastic shopping bags...wouldn't it be great if we could give back to the environment while we spend our hard-earned money?!

Another interesting post is the display of all the media covers from Sept. 12, 2001. I had never seen this image before, so sorry if you'd already seen it. I just thought it would be a great thing to look at to kind of reflect.

You Can't Miss

In honor of lab last Thursday, I have found a little website that displays different sites that incorporate flash (http://bestwebgallery.com/category/flash/). Some of them are really cool and others are really odd, but it's neat to see what other designers are doing with their program skills.
One in particular that I found interesting was this Toyota website: http://demo.northkingdom.com/ihuvudetpatoyota/index_en.html. It's pretty funky!

Response

The flash lab was great on Thursday. I was having so much fun watching everyone get so excited about what they were learning. It really helped me remember little things I had forgotten to do the last time I worked in Flash, so it was a great experience for me.
I definitely want to incorporate Flash into my website, however I'm still debating as to how much Flash should be in it. I'm going to be pursuing New York AND places like Hallmark and ad agencies, so I want to make I can show them what all I can do.
I'm thinking about just using Flash in my intro page and the rest just normal. I guess we'll just have to see, especially since I tend to change my mind once I really start diving into the Flash project! You never know how long it will take you until you sit down and try and do it all in one sitting...wish me luck! haha

Critique

This week I am critiquing my experience with the Meredith prototypes. I had an interesting time with these, especially trying to finish them up the past few days. It seemed like I was constantly fussing with them and I was never really content with anything!
It has been a frustrating challenge for me because I am having an interesting battle with myself in trying to come up with a solid design that infuses older women (40-ish) with technology for their homes. I think I may be thinking too young, too guyish or too simple sometimes. The only one of the covers I really like is the one I have posted here. I like how I used the title with the lines in the background. I asked around via e-mail and most of my female family members agreed that it was their favorite as well.
Also, the line colors could change based on the colors of the cover photo and such and it could be really fun (or at least I think it would be)!
Let me know if you like it/hate it/have any suggestions!
