You Can't Miss: blog

This week's Noisy Decent Graphics discussion is about a quote that was posted about graphics. Mike Dempsey (CDT) said "Graphics has hit a watershed, not knowing which way to go from here. With all stylistic trends plundered, is there anywhere to go but backwards?"

I kind of agree with this in certain ways, but at the same time this quote really bothers me. I can't imagine a world where design doesn't seem innovative or stylistic. I guess since I have grown up in a time where I get so see so many styles and eras of design that it just scares me when people say that all the ideas stylistically have been done.

Do you agree with this? I don't really know. It's funny because I say this sometimes about movies and other things, however I've never really thought about it with art and design.

Critique

This week, I am critiquing my website. I know most of you haven't seen it yet, and it's still a work in progress so it'll probably be hard for you to understand what I'm talking about.

The image posted above is an image of my splash page after the flash. I changed the colors this afternoon after looking at my site again. After class, I realized that my color palette for my site was very juvenile looking. I decided to change it and give it a more "me" color scheme. I chose oranges, grays and red with a black background. I thought the white type was very contrasting, so I tried that out. Do you like it? What about the font?

I'm still not sure about the font, but I guess I'll find out in class on Thursday!

Oh, in case you want to check it out, my site is http://eflanary.com/

Response

This week I am responding to everyone's websites. I really liked seeing how everyone had something different to show! It was also great to see the amount of flash graphics that everyone had on their sites.

It seemed to me that a lot of personality were shown in almost all of them, which is really great. I think a portfolio site should have a bit of your personality in it because you are selling yourself to future employers.

I'm afraid mine's a little too vibrant! I guess I'll get feedback in class about it, but I just really liked the variety and the skill everyone showed on their sites.

Great job, classmates!
